Weekly Recap: Hawks Go Unbeaten Across Seven Games

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program was dominant during its six-match slate from September 2-6, going a combined 6-0-1 (92.9%) between the three active programs as volleyball swept all three of its matchups, women's soccer remained undefeated and men's soccer came away with two wins plus a tie.

 

Volleyball:

  • Results 

    • Tuesday, September 2

  • Top Performers

    • Deanna Kalkbrenner led the block party at the net with nine (1.00 p/s) while racking up 23.5 points (2.61 p/s), 17 kills (1.89 p/s), and a 0.467 hitting percentage.

    • Kaylen Miles was unstoppable from behind the service line in the sweep of the Panthers, dropping 14 of her 15 aces over the week (93.3%) in addition to setting season-highs for both assists (20) and digs (8) versus the Titans.

    • Lelia Iafeta posted back-to-back double-doubles during the Howard CC tri-match, picking up career-bests for digs (18), kills (16), and blocks (4) over that span.

    • Ana Salamanca produced double-figure dig totals in all three victories, leading the Hawks at 48 (5.33 p/s) and joined the service aces party at Baltimore City with a personal-record four. 

    • Amelie Lancioni, similar to her teammate Iafeta, also went for double-doubles in each of the team's final two contests, averaging 4.44 assists (40) and 3.22 digs (29) for Coach Sanders.

  • Top Performers

    • Matthew Knapp was a one-man show, exploding for 17 points on eight goals plus an assist, scoring on over half of his shot attempts (53.3%) including both game-winners.

    • Brandon Rollins sported a goals against average just over one-and-a-half (1.60) while saving 81.8% of his opportunities, making double-digit stops at Anne Arundel (11) for the eighth time of his career.

    • Aydyn Meaders and Marvin Bates-Williams were the other two position players to tally at least one goal and assist apiece with the former going for two helpers and a score whereas the latter had one each.

    • Everton McKinney as well as Zion Abdullah both rocketed shots past the keeper to go along with the trio of Donovan Dean, Diego Garcia-Diaz, and Antone Perry all distributing assists.

  • Top Performers

    • In the ladies' first week appearing in the NJCAA Division II polls since at least the 2015 season, Amber Jones helped put the Black and Gold on the inside track to a regular season championship, aiding the takedown of the #18 Riverhawks during their lone match courtesy of her second multi-goal outing in three tilts, finding the back of the net twice in three tries.

    • Kylie Smith spent the entirety of the day between the pipes for Coach Landis, rewarding his trust with a season-most eight saves (80%) and the club's third consecutive dub.

    • Sara Allwine led the visitors in both shots (4) and shots-on-goal (3), setting up one of Jones' scores with Kiera Salazar providing the other assist.
