Weekly Recap: Volleyball Send Sophomores Out With Win

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program honored its two volleyball Sophomores by sweeping Potomac State in its final match of the regular season and while both soccer teams had a difficult time gaining any rhythm in the mid-week, the ladies bounced back to thump Carroll on the road.

 

Volleyball: 

 

  • Results
    • Tuesday, October 14

        • 3-0 (25-22, 25-19, 25-23)
          • Sophomore Night

 

  • Top Performers
    • Lelia Iafeta had an emotional moment pregame as her entire family celebrated her success with the traditional Māori dance, The Haka, during the Sophomore Night festivities. The New Zealand native then went out and delivered a match-best 13 points, dozen kills, plus one of the team's three service aces.
    • The club's other Sophomore, Mia Decarlo, concluded her home tenure with six digs and an assist.
    • Deanna Kalkbrenner was incredible, smashing eight kills, blocking six attacks (two solo), hitting 0.462, and digging up one ball.
    • Ana Martinez (16) and Taylor Hollinger (15) combined for 31 digs between them, the latter tacking on six kills as well.
    • Amelie Lancioni narrowly missed out on a double-double, averaging seven assists (21 total) and three digs (9 total) per set.

  • Top Performers
    • Donovan Dean entered the week with just a single score but left with a multi-goal game, placing both of the team's scoreboard denters past the keeper in the match versus Hagerstown.
    • Daniel Griffith produced his first collegiate point by assisting one of Dean's net finders on top of two shots-on-goal.
    • Antone Perry tied Dean for the most shot attempts for the Hawks at four while they both were one of four players with multiple SOGs including Griffith and Everton McKinney.
    • Brandon Rollins totaled 18 saves for a stop per every ten minutes between the pipes, yielding a 66.7% save percentage.

  • Top Performers
    • To nobody's surprise, Sara Allwine led the points parade with a quartet of goals and an assist, ending the week with nine along with a team-most 11 shots and nine SOGs.
    • Kiera Salazar had a goal-scoring hat trick with three scores to follow right behind her teammate, doing so with deadly accuracy as her four overall boots led to a 75% shot percentage.
    • Amber Jones wrapped up the student-athletes with multiple goals as she cashed in on two goals whereas Abby May logged numerous assists (2) in addition to a goal.
    • Raynna Ratchford was the top dawg in goal for Coach Landis, posting the complete game victory at Carroll while giving up just two goals over 138 minutes, stopping 77.8% of balls with seven saves and boasting a GAA of 1.30.
