Weekly Recap: Volleyball Improves to 4-0 in League, #17 Women’s Soccer Suffers First Defeat

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program went 2-1-2 (60%) with volleyball winning its sixth straight, women's soccer easily dispatching Catonsville, and the men played to a pair of low-scoring draws.

 

Volleyball: 

  • Results

  • Top Performers

    • Lelia Iafeta went to Arnold on a mission to bring the thunder and she delivered on that promise, striking down a career-best 19 kills (4.75 p/s) to go along with a half-dozen digs (1.50 p/s), and a trio of aces (0.75 p/s) while hitting at a 0.245 success rate.

    • Amelie Lancioni was a one-woman show, logging a season-high six service aces (1.50 p/s), averaged 5.50 assists per set (22), nearly pulled off a double-double with nine digs (2.25 p/s), and smacked four kills (1.00 p/s).

    • Ana Salamanca fronted the defensive backline with 22 digs (5.50 p/s) and tacked on a trio of aces (0.75 p/s) as well.

  • Top Performers

    • With just a single goal allowed in two matches, Brandon Rollins rightfully earned the top spot on the performance leaderboard despite not earning the victories, pitching a shutout of the Catonsville Cardinals before giving up just one score at Cecil, stonewalling 12 would-be goals for a 92.3% save percentage.

    • The only dent on the scoreboard came from none other than Matthew Knapp, who dropped his ninth goal of the campaign into the net as part of his three shots-on-goal.

    • Aydyn Meaders led the offense with eight shots, six of those on-target (75%), but unfortunately for him, none of them could escape the goalie's gloves.

  • Top Performers

    • Sara Allwine and Kiera Salazar stole the headlines for the 17th-ranked ladies this week, both going for a hat trick's worth of scores whereas the former took the points crown with an additional assist tacked on.

    • Elyssa Guy, Amber Jones, Faith Wright, and Abby May all put one of their shots into the net, May's being the lone goal against a formidable NJCAA Division I opponent while Jones tallied three assists on the side for an all-around sparkling showing.

    • Raynna Ratchford had the best save percentage among the three goalkeepers used by Coach Landis, ceding just two goals over a full 90-minute span between the two contests while saving nine shots (81.8%)
