LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland Athletics Department is pleased to announce the hiring of Frank Medley as the new Head Coach of the Hawks Volleyball program.
Medley brings more than two decades of coaching experience and nearly three decades of educational leadership to CSM. A longtime Southern Maryland resident and respected educator, he has served as a head volleyball coach in Southern Maryland since 2021 and has been actively involved in the sport since beginning his coaching career at the high school level in 2000.
"We are excited to welcome Frank Medley to the College of Southern Maryland family," said Dr. Smallwood. "His experience as a coach, educator, and leader makes him an outstanding fit for our volleyball program. Frank understands the importance of developing student-athletes both on and off the court, and we are confident he will have a tremendous impact on our program."
A graduate of St. Mary's College of Maryland, Medley earned his graduate degree from Notre Dame of Maryland University. As a student-athlete and lifelong volleyball enthusiast, he competed in club volleyball and numerous men's and coed leagues, developing a passion for the game that has carried over into his coaching career.
In addition to his coaching background, Medley brings a wealth of experience in education. He is currently completing his 28th year in the field, having served in a variety of leadership roles, including teacher, instructional coach, assistant principal, and principal. He also serves as an adjunct professor of English as a Second Language (ESL), demonstrating his commitment to student success and lifelong learning.
His extensive experience working with students from diverse backgrounds aligns well with the College of Southern Maryland's mission and its commitment to supporting student-athletes academically, athletically, and personally.
Beyond the court and classroom, Medley enjoys cooking, traveling, and exploring different cultures. Fluent in Spanish and proficient in French, he values building meaningful relationships and fostering inclusive environments that help students feel supported and empowered.
As he prepares for his first season leading the Hawks, Medley is focused on establishing a strong foundation for the program and creating opportunities for student-athletes to succeed both during their time at CSM and beyond.
The College of Southern Maryland Volleyball program will begin preparations for the upcoming season under Medley's leadership immediately.
