CSM Triumphs over Trojans

The College of Southern Maryland women's volleyball team handily defeated the Allegany College of Maryland Trojans on October 10 3-0.

The Hawks won the sets by scores of 25-15, 25-10, and 25-8.

Freshman Meah Eackles was all over the floor for CSM, contributing four service aces, two kills, two solo blocks, two block assists, and four digs.

Sophomore Katelyn Kluh was featured prominently in the box score as well. She registered five kills, three service aces, two solo blocks, and a block assist. Kluh now ranks fourth among MD JUCO players in solo blocks with 20, tied for sixth in block assists with eight, and fifth in blocks per set at 0.76.

Kluh and Eackles are 23rd and 24th in MD JUCO in kills per set at 1.41 and 1.37, respectively.

Freshman Kelsey Hanks led the Hawks in assists with 13 while also making three service aces.

Freshman Jordan Day contributed four kills, second-most for CSM in the game. Her .250 hitting percentage was her second-highest of the season.

Freshman Skylar Banting had four service aces on the night, and freshman Kelsey Kluh accounted for two block assists.

This was also CSM's night to honor those who have been affected by breast cancer.

CSM assistant coach Nila Straka is a breast cancer survivor, so this was a meaningful game for her.

Straka said, "I think for me, just having people in the stands wearing pink, supporting the cause of [breast cancer awareness]" is important.

The message she wants to share with those who have been impacted by breast cancer is that there is hope.

"It's a disease that can be tackled and not something that we need to be afraid of," Straka said.
