CSM Dominates with 10-0 Shutout Against Sweet Briar College

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks women's soccer team shutout the Sweet Briar College Vixens 10-0 on October 15.

Freshman forward/midfielder Megan Hinton continued her high-scoring season, registering her second hat trick of the year. All three goals came in the first half. She scored in the 19th minute, assisted by sophomore midfielder/defender Madelyn Minichino. Hinton scored a minute later for her second goal. Her final tally came in the 38th minute, thanks to a nice entry pass from freshman midfielder/defender Zoi Whitsett into the penalty box that allowed Hinton to score in the bottom-left corner of the net.

CSM had six other players with multiple points on the day, highlighting their dominant offensive performance.

Whitsett was second in scoring for the Hawks, chipping in two goals and an assist. Freshman forward Alexis Corcoran had a productive day, kicking off the scoring for CSM in the third minute of the game and providing two assists.

Sophomore defender/midfielder Brooke Portzen and freshman defender Brooklyn Beebe notched their first goals of the season.

Freshman defender Cali Barber netted her third goal of the year, and Minichino added a goal to her earlier assist.

Freshman goalie Natalie Schiavone made three saves on three shots as she got the start in net for the Hawks. Sophomore goalie Ashley Cox would close things out in the second half, adding five saves to keep the Vixens scoreless on the day.

The Hawks outshot Sweet Briar by a substantial amount, 51-8. CSM's 51 shots are their most in a game since October 8, 2019, when the Hawks took 55 against the CCBC Catonsville Cardinals.

CSM is now 6-3-2 overall on the season and 4-2-2 in Region 20 Division II play.
