Bio
Matt Brown enters his role as Head Goalkeeper Coach at the College of Southern Maryland with a deep understanding of the position and a full circle connection to the program. A former CSM goalkeeper (2015) and McDonough High School standout, Matt bring firsthand collegiate experience and a passion for developing high-level competitors to the next generation of Hawks.
Having played the position himself, Matt understands that goalkeeping demands far more than shot stopping ability. His coaching philosophy centers on technical precision, tactical awareness, communication, leadership, and mental resilience. He emphasizes command of the box, confident decision making, distribution under pressure and the ability to organize and elevate the entire defensive unit.
Matt is committed to developing complete goalkeepers - athletes who are disciplined in their preparation, composed in high pressure situations and accountable leaders on and off the field. His training session are designed to replicate game-speed situations, sharpen reaction time, and build confidence required to perform consistently at the highest level. Beyond tactical development, Matt prioritizes mentorship and character growth. He believes the goalkeeper is the foundation of a teams mentality and culture. Matt works to instill professionalism, work ethic and competitive intensity in every player he coaches.
As a former Hawk, Matt takes pride in giving back to the program that helped shape his playing career. His mission is to raise the standard of goalkeeping at CSM and prepare players to succeed both with in the program and at the next level.
