Bio

A long-time soccer coach, John Kopickois heading into his 20th year of coaching and starting his first year at the collegiate level.

During Kopicko’s time in coaching he has worked with a vast range of developmental levels of the game.  Most recently he was on staff at Leonardtown High School as the junior varsity head coach.  John and the staff have led the boys to a 30-02-04 record over the last 3 years.  In addition to being part of the State Championship staff at LHS, he has also worked extensively with St. Mary’s soccer and most recently Southern Maryland Rush as a women's travel coach.

Kopicko holds his US Soccer “D” coaching license as well as many supporting courses, including several United Soccer Federation certifications.  He believes strongly in player development as not only an athlete but as a person.  Coaching allows him the opportunity to develop greater life lessons through the sport.  John believes in maintaining relationships with players by holding true to team core values of commitment, persistence and hard work. Coach Kopicko is looking to harness the great level of local talent that we have in the Southern Maryland area in order to develop a team with a positive culture and deep rooted values.  

On staff at the College of Southern Maryland, Kopicko is honored to be a part of a program with a long history of great soccer in the Maryland Junior College Athletic Conference.  He is excited to be a part of the future of CSM and looking forward to advancing the program to the next level.

John is a graduate of Slippery Rock University and grew up in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  He graduated with a degree in education and works as a teacher in St. Mary’s County.
