CSM Comes up Short Against Carroll

The College of Southern Maryland men's soccer team lost to the Carroll Community College Lynx on October 15 3-2.

Both teams were able to build solid scoring chances throughout the beginning stages of the first half. Ultimately, it was Carroll who broke through first though, scoring in the 35th minute. The Lynx took a 1-0 lead to halftime.

Carroll kept their momentum from the first half going in the second half as they padded their lead with a second goal in the 55th minute.

Freshman Yohan Ouedraogo got CSM back to within one in the 64th minute. He worked his way from the right side of the field through several Carroll defenders to the top of the 18-yard box, where he was able to get a shot off and past the Carroll goalie into the left side of the net. Freshman Eric Brookhart assisted on the score.

Seconds after the Lynx regained a two-goal advantage in the 82nd minute, sophomore Hayden Gould converted a penalty kick given to CSM in the 82nd minute to keep the Hawks within a goal.

CSM could not find the tying goal in the remaining minutes, however, and fell to 3-9-1 on the season.

CSM's next game is Thursday, October 17 at Northern Virginia Community College.
