Hawks Come on Strong in Second Half Against Hagerstown

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks put a stop to their six-game losing streak on September 27, beating the Hagerstown Community College Hawks by a score of 5-2.

Freshmen Antone Perry and Justin Miller provided most of the offense for CSM as they both recorded two-goal performances.

The first half of the game was a back and forth affair, with Hagerstown responding every time CSM put a ball in the back of the net.

The Hawks got on the board first in the 10th minute as Perry netted his first goal of the season, thanks to an assist from sophomore Hayden Gould.

Hagerstown answered immediately, scoring in the 15th minute.

CSM took the lead back in the 25th minute when Miller found the back of the net for the second time this season.

Hagerstown remained persistent, eventually knotting the game back up at 2 in the 32nd minute.

"I wasn't very happy with our first half," CSM head coach Zach Bowman said. "Not even necessarily our tactics and things like that, but effort. Halftime, I expressed that to them, and they came out and proved that they have a little bit of fight in them. That was the only difference maker between the first and second half."

The Hawks listened to their coach and took control in the second half.

Freshman Logan Miller quickly put CSM back in the driver's seat three minutes into the second half with his sixth goal of the season off an assist from Justin Miller.

Perry and Justin Miller dealt Hagerstown the final blows when they added their second goals of the game in the 70th and 72nd minute, respectively.

"The energy that they came out with in the second half is the energy I need them to do for the whole game," Bowman said. "They know how to play, they know how to pass, they know the tactics, but the issue at the end of the day is their mentality and ability to put the effort forward for 90 minutes."
