Hawks Shutout by CCBC Essex Knights

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks lost to the CCBC Essex Knights on September 17 by a score of 4-0.

The Knights kept CSM on their heels all game, scoring two goals in each half.

Freshman Logan Miller was the only Hawk to register shots on goal in this contest, ending the day with four. One of his best chances of the game came early in the first half when his shot from a few yards beyond the 18-yard box banged off the crossbar.

Freshman Joseph Walsh made two outstanding saves on an Essex penalty kick in the 77th minute. Walsh had to take starting goalie Jared-Lee Pixton's spot in the net after Pixton was given a yellow card inside CSM's penalty box. The Essex player decided to shoot at the bottom right corner of the goal, but Walsh reacted perfectly, diving to his left to make the save. The ball rebounded back to the shooter, who took another shot while Walsh was still recovering, but again, Walsh's reflexes kept the ball out of the net, preventing Essex from adding another goal.

After not losing their first three games of the season, the Hawks have now been shutout five games in a row. CSM will look to get back on a winning track when they travel to Cecil College on September 20.
