CSM Men's Soccer Team Looks to Earn First Victory

After a 7-1 loss to open the season, the College of Southern Maryland (CSM) Men's Soccer team will try to earn its first victory of the season against the Community College of Baltimore Country (CCBC) Catonsville this Saturday, Sept. 8.

The Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville are 2-2 so far this season, with a most recent loss to Montgomery College. The Cardinals started off the year 2-0 by defeating NOVA and Lackawanna College. CCBC then earned their first loss of the season to #4 ranked Camden County College in a hard fought 1-0 final.

The standout star for the Cardinals is Ronmel Alfaro. The 5'4 freshman from Glen Burnie, Maryland, leads the Cardinals in points with six, two assists, and two goals, one of which was a game winning goal. He is also third on the team with six shots this year. Another player to look out for is Abdoulaye Keita. The 6'0" sophomore mid-fielder is very aggressive on the offensive end, leading the Cardinals in shots with 11. He is tied with Alfaro in goals with two, and has an assist totaling five points so far this season.

Look for Hawks defenders Hunter Youngblood and Zachary McDonough, the leaders of our young CSM team, to control the tempo on the defensive side of the ball, limiting CCBC to minimal opportunities to score. With their defensive play, they have the ability to push the ball to the Hawks offensive playmakers, such as Miles Payton. Face off at CCBC Catonsville is scheduled for 4 p.m.
