CSM Baseball Set to Open 2025 Season with an Away Game Against Virginia Peninsula

The College of Southern Maryland (CSM) baseball team is ready to kick off their 2025 season this Sunday, February 9th, with an exciting away game against Virginia Peninsula. As the Hawks take the field for their season opener, the team is bolstered by a strong group of returning players and promising newcomers who are eager to make an impact this season.

With a mix of experienced veterans and talented freshmen, CSM is poised for a competitive year in the Maryland Juco baseball scene. The returning players have been working hard throughout the offseason, sharpening their skills and preparing for the challenges of the upcoming season.

Veteran Leadership in the Infield

The Hawks' infield will be anchored by returning players like Yuni Pena and Davey Reynolds, both of whom have been key contributors in previous seasons. Pena, a reliable infielder, brings both defensive stability and a strong bat to the table. His leadership on and off the field will be a driving force for the team. Reynolds, known for his versatility and ability to perform in high-pressure situations, will provide even more depth to the infield.

Alongside Pena and Reynolds, Jared Harry, Dorian Arraiz, and Caleb Bean will be important pieces of the infield. Harry's quick reactions and strong arm will help solidify the defense, while Arraiz and Bean will bring added flexibility with their ability to play multiple positions.

Dynamic Outfield Play

CSM's outfield will also see the return of some explosive talent. Blaine Brashear, Waldy Reyes, Joaquin Velez, and Bryson Hutzell are all capable of making spectacular plays and contributing offensively. Brashear and Reyes bring speed and agility to the outfield, making them threats both on defense and at the plate. Velez and Hutzell will also be crucial to the team's success, offering a combination of consistency and energy to round out the outfield lineup.

Strong Pitching Rotation

On the mound, the Hawks will rely heavily on their experienced pitchers, including Rayden Deets and Rylan Langley. Deets, known for his grit and ability to keep hitters off balance, will be a key figure in CSM's rotation. Langley, a solid pitcher with excellent control, will complement Deets as an impact arm in the rotation this season.

Behind the Plate

Behind the plate, Henry Itani returns as CSM's catcher, bringing a strong defensive presence and leadership to the Hawks' battery. Itani's experience handling pitchers and his ability to control the game from behind the plate will be invaluable for the Hawks' success in 2025.

Sophomore First Baseman Tyree Claxton Looks to Make an Impact

Sophomore first baseman Tyree Claxton is ready to contribute significantly to the Hawks' offense and defense this season. With a powerful bat and strong presence at first base, Claxton will be an important asset for CSM. His leadership and commitment to improving will provide a steadying influence in the clubhouse and on the field.

A Look Ahead to Sunday's Opener

The first game of the season is always a moment to remember, and the Hawks are excited to showcase their talent and hard work when they face off against Virginia Peninsula.
