CSM Takes One of Two from CCBC Catonsville
The College of Southern Maryland Hawks split their doubleheader against CCBC Catonsville on April 6. CSM won the first game 4-3 and lost the second game 5-4.
The Hawks used a three-run third inning to secure their sixth win of the season.
CSM started the bottom of the third inning with three straight bunt hits from Ryan Barnett, Justin Hitt, and Matthew Fitch to load the bases for Trevor Drummond. Drummond then hit a line drive to the right-center field gap to bring home Barnett and Hitt to put CSM up 3-2.
Later in the inning, Scott Logue was able to drive Drummond in with a base hit to left-center to put the Hawks up 4-2.
Drummond went 2-3 at the plate in the first game with two RBIs, while Hitt went 3-3 and scored two runs.
Sophomore Kenny Rickett pitched six innings, and while he gave up three runs, none of them were earned. Hitt earned his first save of the season after coming in to finish the seventh inning for Rickett.
"Kenny was outstanding," CSM head coach Aaron Michael said of his starting pitcher. "Kenny pitched great. We made one or two miscues in the field behind him that caused his pitch count to get up there higher than I wanted it to be.
"Hitt was able to come in and shut the door. That's what Hitt did all last year and he's starting to do it now for us too. That's been big for us, it's really helped out," Michael said.
