Five Student-Athletes Represent Hawks On All-Region Basketball Teams
The College of Southern Maryland basketball programs wound up with five All-Region 20 selections as Shamir Taylor (First Team), Amir Dade (Second Team) and Kyle Jackson (Honorable Mention) made the men’s squad while Amoni Taylor (Second Team) and Demi Lathern (Honorable Mention) got the nod on the women’s side.
LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland basketball programs wound up with five All-Region 20 selections as Shamir Taylor (First Team), Amir Dade (Second Team) and Kyle Jackson (Honorable Mention) made the men's squad while Amoni Taylor (Second Team) and Demi Lathern (Honorable Mention) got the nod on the women's side.
Men:
Shamir Taylor, a sophomore guard from Waldorf, Maryland, was a two-time Region 20 Player of the Month, winning the award in both January and November. He led the Hawks in minutes per game (34.2), scoring (26.3), field goals (260), free throws made (204), three-pointers (64), rebounding (7.4), and steals (3.1) while also recording seven double-doubles.
Dade, a sophomore guard from Waldorf, Maryland, topped the team in assists per game (3.5) while being one of only two players to average double-digits on offense (17.2) in addition to three double-doubles.
Jackson, a sophomore forward from Waldorf, Maryland, fronted the Black and Gold in field goal percentage (68.7%), free throw percentage (81%), offensive rebounds per contest (2.5), and blocked shots (45) alongside a trio of double-double showings.
Women:
Amoni Taylor, a sophomore guard from Clinton, Maryland, was the squad's top Hawk statistically in minutes (37.7), three-point percentage (29.3%), free throw percentage (64.7%), points (18.8), field goals (172), and three-pointers (63).
Lathern, a freshman guard from Washington, D.C., finished at the top of the CSM leaderboard for field goal percentage (36%) alongside double-double performances versus Richard Bland and Frederick as well as being the only other player outside of Taylor to drop 10+ points each contest (12.1).
