Weekly Recap: Softball Hits Walk-Off Grand Slam, Baseball Knocks Off Unbeaten Essex
The College of Southern Maryland athletics program had a flair for the dramatic last week with four games being decided by one or two runs including softball’s walk-off grand slam in their Home Opener as well as baseball being the first team to beat CCBC Essex in 2026.

- Brooke Colliflower turned a 3-0 deficit into a 4-3 walk-off winner with one of the biggest swings of her life in the team's first home game of the season, beating Cecil and accounting for nearly half of the Hawks' RBI total for the week at six.
- Miranda Twigg was a dual threat, producing a sparkling 2.29 ERA, 11 strikeouts and a pair of wins over 18. Innings in the circle while going 4-for-9 (0.444) at the plate.
- Leanne Fenwick was the most effective hitter overall, going 5-for-8 (0.625) plus a walk, run scored, double, and a ribbie.
- Cassie Wolfe racked up the most extra-base knocks for Coach Sanderson as three of her four hits went for doubles in addition to a quartet of ribbies.

- Victor Bosquez showcased electric stuff out of the bullpen in CSM's win over the Knights, shutting down CCBC Essex over 5.1 scoreless frames in which he struck out seven and surrendered just four base runners.
- Patience was the ultimate virtue for Mason McReynolds as he accrued nearly as many walks (5) as at-bats (6) while Luis De Los Santos (3) and Ivan Gomez (2) also drew multiple free passes.
- Lenell Evans tied Gomez for the most knocks at three but it was his legs that set him apart as he stole four bases with the rest of the Hawks adding two more.
