Weekly Recap: Men’s Hoops Remains Undefeated, Improves To 5-0

LA PLATA, Md. – The College of Southern Maryland athletics program is in full-on basketball mode from now until February as Coach Hoyt's men have already blown past last season's win total while the women continue to improve daily in their return to varsity status.

 

Men's Basketball:

  • Top Performers (Not Including Virginia Peninsula)
    • Shamir Taylor is proving to be a revelation for the Black and Gold, averaging 29.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, 4.0 steals, and 1.5 assists in the two games with stats from the previous week, shooting 55.3% overall (21-for-38) as well as 41.2% (7-of-17) from distance.
    • Kyle Jackson has imposed his will in the paint to much success, hauling in 13.0 rebounds per game and swatting a team-best seven blocks back to whence they came, all while contributing 18 points in the process.
    • Amir Dade has played selfless basketball, handing out eight assists while making his own opportunities via a 12.5-point average too.

  • Top Performers (Bryant & Stratton Game Only)
    • Amoni Taylor was a superstar for the Hawks in their season / home debut, accounting for 30 of the team's 55 points (54.5%) while connecting on 11-of-21 (52.4%) shot attempts including 6-for-11 (54.5%) from long range.
    • Raylin Lee was the top rebounder on the afternoon at six in addition to swiping three steals and putting seven points on the scoreboard.
    • Sanaa Morrow did all the small things well, dishing out a team-most four assists and swiping a trio of steals.
    • Cailyn Samuel fronted the defense by picking off four errant Bobcats passes and converting seven points whereas Demi Lathern was the top contributor off the bench at nine points plus four boards.
