Jenica Leonard
Title: Head Coach

Coach Leonard, better known as “Coach Z,” is entering her first season as head coach for CSM’s volleyball team.

Born and raised in Seattle, Washington, Leonard started playing volleyball at the age of five coached by her mother, who was a coach for over 25 years. She played club volleyball as a youth, and played varsity volleyball at Seattle Prep School. She earned All-Metro Team honors as a junior and senior, earning a full scholarship to Howard University. After playing outside hitter her freshman year at Howard, she tore her ACL her sophomore year and had to red-shirt. She would overcome the injury and play the next three seasons at Howard as their libero.

Coaching volleyball was always an interest to Leonard, as she had experience coaching 12U and 14U club ball while in high school, and continued to coach after her playing days at Howard. In 2013, she was a coach at the Maryland Junior Volleyball Club. In 2014, after moving to Southern Maryland, she became a coach at the Southern Maryland Junior Volleyball Club, coaching 14, 15, and 16U teams. She was also the head volleyball coach at the Georgetown Visitation School.

Leonard emphasizes leadership on the court, wanting her players to become leaders and winners with a positive attitude. She also has a love for the game, and wants her players to display their passion for volleyball on the court as well. She believes these attributes can continue the winning tradition of CSM’s volleyball program.
