After falling in three straight sets to Potomac State College of WVU, Montgomery College, and Community College of Rhode Island, the Hawks were finally able to come away with their first win of the season against Howard Community College by a score of 3-1 ( 25-22, 25-18, 24-26, 25-15).
"We are all very excited for the girls and proud of their fight and determination to play hard throughout this past weekend's tournament", said Head Coach Jenica Williams. It seemed all the hard work that the team has put in since the beginning of the season finally paid off last Sunday.
"All of the girls have improved tremendously since we stepped foot in the gym back in August," added Williams. "This weekend truly showed how hard they have been working individually and as a team to grow and develop together. Howard had some great servers and a strong key attacker, which made the game very close and intense, but with our strong defense and determination to serve tough and put the ball away, we were able to win the match 3-1."
"The girls played very well," added assistant coach Kaila Exum. "I am very proud of all of them. They were able to set a goal and they accomplished it. They made sure to stay positive throughout the match, as well as the entire weekend, focusing on getting one point at a time."
Zaiera Duckett was selected to the All-Tournament team, having 12 kills, 14 digs, and two aces in the match against Howard. Regan Tuiasosopo added 13 kills, 20 digs, and an ace, and Katelyn Kluh had eight kills as well.
With a few days off, the Hawks will try to carry their momentum and earn their second win of the season when they travel to Chesapeake College on Thursday, October 4th at 7pm.
