Hawks fall in three sets to Garrett College

Despite a close first set, the Hawks (0-4) fell to the Lakers of Garrett College (3-1) in three sets (25-23, 25-12, 25-15) on Tuesday night.

If there is any way to gain momentum against a quality opponent it's usually early in the game. For CSM, they found themselves in a competitive first set against Garrett College. Both teams would go on small scoring runs to gain momentum, but the Hawks and Lakers found themselves in a dogfight. With the Lakers holding a 24-23 lead, the Hawks committed a rotation error that gave Garrett the 25th point to win the set. It was one of at least three rotation errors that CSM committed during the set, and it proved to be costly.

In the second set the Hawks were never able to gain momentum, as Garrett middle blocker Jada Maxwell proved to be a dominant force in the game. She would make timely blocks and quality kills to keep the Lakers on multiple scoring runs. The Hawks would find themselves losing the second set 25-12. The Third set was similar to the second, but the Hawks kept fighting. CSM would score on 10 straight points when Garrett called a timeout with the score at 20-11. The Hawks would ultimately fall in the third set 25-15.

Gabrielle Wilson led the way for the Hawks with six kills and two digs, outside hitter Reagan Tuiasosopo followed with five kills and two digs, and setter Samantha Rerig had 12 assists and six digs.

The Hawks look to bounce back when they take on Northern Virginia Community College on Thursday.
