Women's Soccer Begins Fall 2021 Season

The College of Southern Maryland women's soccer team began their fall 2021 season on August 28 when they hosted the Union County College Owls.

CSM lost 6-0 to the Owls, who were ranked No. 5 in the NJCAA Division III preseason poll, before dropping their second game of the season to the Anne Arundel Community College Riverhawks 3-0 on September 2.

The Hawks are returning to game action quickly after playing their fall 2020 season during the spring 2021 semester due to coronavirus. They went 3-2 and played their last game on May 13 when they lost 10-0 to the CCBC Essex Knights in the Region XX Division II Tournament Semifinals.

Nine players return from last year's roster, including 2020-21 All-Maryland JUCO Second Team honoree Micaiah Lloyd. Other returning players are Ashley Cox, Jaiyonah Smith, Elaina Guy, Gabriela Adamo, Ana Benitez, Symone Harrison, Alexia Schnaubelt, and Mackenzie Miller.

Charlie Raphael, now in his second year as head coach, also mentioned newcomers Haley Bullis, Amber Harris, and Alexandra Baker as players to watch out for on this year's squad.

Raphael said his outlook on this season is "optimistic but tempered as we need to keep our small roster healthy." He wants to continue to grow the program while also having a winning season.
