Freshman foreward Karleigh Cohen scores three goals in the second half as the Hawks defeat the Cardinals of CCBC Catonsville 6-1. It's their first win in nearly two weeks.
The Hawks were the more aggressive team on offense from the opening faceoff. Ten minutes into the first half, Hawks midfielder Semiya Lowe scored her first goal of the season that put the Hawks up 1-0.
In the second half, the Hawks turned up the pressure. The Cardinals made two critical mistakes by having the ball go through their own net of their feet, which gave the Hawks two more goals in the second half. After the Cardinals' Emily Mohammad scored a goal to make the score 3-1, Karleigh Cohen took matters into her own hands. In the span of eight minutes she scored three goals, all unassisted, to put the game away for the Hawks. 22 of the Hawks'27 shots were from Cohen, including 10 of the 14 shots on goal.
Cohen's spectacular offensive performance has given the Hawks a boost all season. She now has six goals on the season, and 19 of her 42 shots on goal, which leads the team. With the assistance from her teammates, this kind of performance is just what the Hawks needed to get back on track.
After a few days off, they will take the field for their home opener against CCBC Essex. Faceoff is set for 2pm on Tuesday, October 2nd.
