Hawks Pick Up Win Over Owls

The College of Southern Maryland women's basketball team picked up their first conference win of the 2019 season on November 26, beating the Prince George's Community College Owls 91-74.

Sophomore Amaya Yancey recorded her first triple-double of the season with 16 points, 15 rebounds, and 13 assists. She had seven triple-doubles last season.

Freshman Karalina Lawrence recorded her fourth double-double of the season with a team-high 23 points and 18 rebounds. She also had two assists, two steals, and one block.

Freshman Chenice Lewis added 15 points, six assists, four steals, and three rebounds. Freshman Imani Holloway provided 12 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and two steals.

CSM head coach Ardell Jackson said for having nine freshmen on the roster, "They're playing good ball for some kids just coming in the door, so I'm proud of them."

CSM shot 50 percent from the floor while holding Prince George's to 40.6 percent. CSM only committed 15 turnovers while forcing 30 Prince George's turnovers. The Hawks also outrebounded the Owls 66-37.

"[Prince George's] is a good team," Jackson said. "You look at the numbers they're putting up. They're well-coached from the head coach to the assistant coach. They're going to do a tremendous job in Maryland JUCO. So I told them [CSM], 'You're not coming here and playing against just anybody, you're playing against a good team.' They have wins, they have some big wins under their belt. So for us, we have to approach every game and play each opponent well."

"Every game is a stepping stone, learning experience," Jackson said. "We're going to keep growing from it. I'm glad to see them on the winning side."
