Former College of Southern Maryland men's lacrosse student-athlete Caleb Shaffer has signed his letter of intent to continue his academic and athletic career at Webber International University in Babson Park, Florida.
Shaffer came to CSM from Iowa Park, Texas, playing his first lacrosse game ever as a Hawk. He started all eight games of the spring 2019 season, compiling a record of 4-4 with a 41 percent save percentage. "Not bad for someone who learned the game while he was playing," CSM men's lacrosse head coach Steve Campbell said.
"Caleb is the first student-athlete that I have placed at a four-year school to play lacrosse, and I'm hoping he is the first of many," Campbell said.
Webber International University is an NAIA (National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics) school that competes in The Sun Conference. Webber's men's lacrosse program will begin NAIA competition in the spring of 2021.
