CSM Brings Home Second MD JUCO Championship In a Row
The College of Southern Maryland Hawks golf team won the MD JUCO Conference Golf Championship on April 25 at Swan Point Golf Course. The Hawks beat Anne Arundel Community College by four strokes, finishing with a team score of 338.
Sophomore William Garrett placed second at Swan Point, shooting a round of 76 and earning himself 30 MD JUCO points.
The points the golfers earned for their placements in this year's conference championship were doubled.
Sophomore Tyler Potts tied for third with his round of 79. He was awarded 28 MD JUCO points.
Garrett and Potts were named to the All-MD JUCO First Team for their play this season.
The All-Conference teams were decided by points accumulated from all five MD JUCO matches this season.
Garrett finished with the most MD JUCO season points, 93, and Potts finished with the second-most with 88.
Sophomore Mark Burgess shot an 88 at Swan Point, good for eighth on the day and 18 MD JUCO season points.
Burgess was named to the All-MD JUCO Second Team with 59 points.
Freshman Jackson Bennett finished with a round of 95. He ended the season with 16 MD JUCO season points after receiving six points for his play at Swan Point.
Freshman Jordan Lofton shot his lowest round of the season, a 97, to earn four points and finish the season with 10 MD JUCO points.
The Hawks will play in the Region XX Championship from May 3-5 at Cumberland Country Club. If the Hawks win the Region XX Championship, they will qualify for the National Championship at Swan Lake Golf Resort in Plymouth, Indiana from May 21-24.
"If every player can improve and play to their potential then the team will meet success," CSM head coach David Russell said. "In order to win the region this year, the boys will need to perform at their best."
