Potts, Garrett Surge to Top of MD JUCO Leaderboard
After their first two matches of the 2019 season, sophomores William Garrett and Tyler Potts sit atop the MD JUCO golf standings. Potts leads the way with 32 points with Garrett right behind him at 30 points.
Potts took first place in the first match of the season on March 28 at South River with a score of 77, earning him 16 MD JUCO points. He then placed second on April 4 at Beaver Creek with a score of 82, earning him another 16 MD JUCO points.
Garrett placed fourth at South River with a score of 83 to receive 13 MD JUCO points. At Beaver Creek, he placed first with a score of 78 to gain 17 more MD JUCO points.
Head coach David Russell said "Tyler and William will battle for the top spot all season and that makes for good competition among the team. However, both can improve on all aspects of their game and in turn that will enable them to shoot lower scores."
Sophomore Mark Burgess is ninth on the MD JUCO leaderboard with 17.5 points - 8.5 coming from his first match where he tied for eighth with a score of 91, and nine coming from his ninth place finish at Beaver Creek where he finished with a score of 92.
Russell said Burgess, Lofton, and Jackson all are working to improve and play better, and the focus for the team is to put in the work that will pay off in May.
