Men's Basketball 2019-20 Season Review

The College of Southern Maryland Hawks men's basketball season came to an end on March 1 when they lost 88-87 to the Garrett College Lakers.

CSM ended the 2019-20 season with a 12-17 record overall, going 4-9 in Maryland JUCO and 5-11 in Region XX.

The Hawks scored a season-high 132 points against the Prince George's Community College Owls on November 26, and had a season-high four-game win streak from Dec. 9, 2019 to Jan. 9, 2020.

The Hawks finished third among all Region XX teams in field goal percentage at 46.8 percent. They were fourth in free throws made with 512, fourth in steals per game with 11.1, fifth in total points with 2604, and sixth in points per game with 89.8 and field goals made with 943.

Sophomores Lelan Eackles and Warrick Godwin were honored with postseason awards for their play during the regular season. Both were named to the All-Maryland JUCO Honorable Mention Team, while Eackles also garnered recognition on the All-Region XX Division II Honorable Mention Team.

Godwin topped the conference leaderboard in 3-point field goals made with 103. He was fifth in field goals made with 192. He ranked sixth in total points (504) and points per game (18.0). Godwin set a school record when he made 10 3-point field goals against Harford Community College on January 24, 2020, ending the night with a career-high 36 points. He was the leading scorer for the Hawks this season, and his 35.5 3-point field goal percentage was good for second on the team.

Eackles ranked seventh in total points (489) and points per game (16.9) among Maryland JUCO players. He finished fourth in defensive rebounds (176), total rebounds (235), and rebounds per game (8.1). He was also fifth in steals with 63. Eackles recorded double-digit scoring totals in all but four of the 29 games he played in. He had two 30-point performances, registering a career-high 39 against Prince George's Community College on Nov. 26, 2019, and 36 in the last game of the season against Garrett College on March 1, 2020. He also tallied nine double-doubles during the season. He was the leading rebounder for the Hawks, and was also second on the team in points per game.
