The College of Southern Maryland Hawks finished as runners-up in this year's NJCAA Region XX Division II Tournament at Cecil College from March 7-10.

The Hawks fell to the Chesapeake Skipjacks in the championship game on Sunday by a score of 73-62.

On their way to the championship game, the No. 7 seed Hawks knocked off the No. 2 seed CCBC Catonsville Cardinals 57-31 and the No. 3 seed Potomac State College of WVU Catamounts 67-57.

"We never focus on seeding, we focused on getting in and making our run," Hawks head coach Ardell Jackson said. "We always knew that we were one of the top teams in our region and wanted to prove that in the Region XX tournament."

Heading into the championship game against the #1-seeded Skipjacks, Jackson said his team was "excited and focused. We knew that we had to play the #1 seed and looked forward to the challenge. It was a great game and it came down to the wire."

Freshman forward Chanelle Hayes had a double-double in the championship game with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Sophomore guard Jennifer Nanosi scored 51 points over the Hawks' three tournament games.
